When she died.
Yes.
Claire's academic work was extraordinary.
Um she was in many ways an academic before her time.
She had done a PhD as a geographer back in the nineties on the experiences of young Muslim women in Watford.
She grew into a very respected and highly renowned geographer covering faith, and we used to have loads of conversations about faith, about gender.
She was a very
strong feminist and we used to have lots of conversations about that, about migration and youth.
And whilst all this
treatment was going on.
We were in Hammersmith Hospital one day, she was in in the hospital receiving some treatment and wasn't coping that well.
And an email comes in and and she typically Claire she would have her phone and still kinda be working even though she really couldn't.
And there was an email saying, You've been made a professor
Which is a kind of definition of bittersweet moments.
Hardly any women geographers as professors and here we were in this moment where she was being given this fabulous accolade at the same time.
She was not really far away from death.
Claire died in July twenty nineteen and I think it's fair to say that the next six months were a total blur, propped up by the support of friends, family, our local community in Hamwell and Ealing, but very much propped up, I think.
