I ball my hand into a fist and hit the wall next to the window to shoe the little bird from my windowsill.

The Nyquil begins to take effect.

As it does, I swear I can still hear dull thumps in the same rhythm as the tapping.

I try to fight the drug induced sleep coming fast, but resistance to oblivion proves futile.

The creature became perplexed by the strange den her prey inhabited, harder than soil, but softer than rock.

It sensed its prey, knew it to be close by the emotional energy it radiated.

She knew where in its shelter it would move to and followed, testing it for an entry point.

She sensed another presence, but one not ready to be consumed.

That would be a challenge.

Besides, the larger prey seemed settled and gave off less energy.
