Shop furniture is never – it can't really be a failure unless it totally falls apart and doesn't work.
But it's not a failure if it's ugly because shop furniture can be ugly.
It avoids judgment.
it avoids that fear of being critiqued, right?
Because the gaps in your drawers in your shop, no one notices.
The gaps in your dining room table dovetails, everyone sees for perpetuity.
And you're like, shit, right?
So I feel like there's an element of putting your neck on the line and perfectionism, right?
And like...
putting yourself at risk when you move outside the shop.
Then you're not going to build a hall table.

And I think what you and I are saying, we're saying different things because it's multifactorial.
Some people's spouse doesn't want it.
Some people are afraid.
They're perfectionistic or afraid of their judgment.
Right, and so I think if you could take all the people who stay building shop furniture, it would form different cohorts, right?
That's fair.
You're talking about maybe 30%, and I'm talking about maybe 20%, and then we could fractionate all the reasons why.
