You've got the ability to switch off certain biological systems and you've got

are the opportunities to stimulate biological systems.

So stimulate immune response or switch off the mechanism that's generating a cell proliferation.

So it's really exciting how that can be used in cancer.

And then the obvious one is genetic disorders.

When people have genetic limitations, the RNA technology can be used

to substitute those deficiencies and work in those places.

So it has a real overlay in rare diseases as well.

Traditionally, Australia has been world-class in research, but translation has been at the bottom of our peer group.

I think government intervention plus also investors and probably entrepreneurs that have gone on and developed a product and been successful coming back and reinvesting part of their exit and their knowledge and coming back and helping entrepreneurs.

I think this is where the gap is in Australia, right?

So there's a few things in there from funding, from investment to government support from also entrepreneurs

you know, successful entrepreneurs coming back, the entrepreneurs tend to have a really good idea and then they tend to get lured internationally and we lose them.

So keeping them here in Australia is vitally important.

So what RNA Australia is doing, we're backed by the New South Wales government.

to work with those research groups, with a team in RNA Australia that's got more than 50 years' experience in translating medicine, to work with the entrepreneurs to hold onto that technology, spin out companies, and then navigate the valley of death with them.

And then as we get that what we call a safe environment

a product that's proven to be safe and ready to go into a human study, then it goes into our manufacturing facility that's been built at Macquarie University.

So there's a whole end-to-end process here so that the research is not staying at the bench or disappearing overseas.
