damage done by individualism and the need to kind of create a persona for yourself that's sort of impermeable to others.
It works for some things, but it doesn't work for things like climate change, which are so vast that they really depend on
people coming together and just dropping their differences.
It's such a trite thing to say, but it's true.
If we all stopped machinating against each other and worked together, that's the necessary first step to addressing climate change.
And it's also the necessary first step for this family.
If they could just be honest with each other and go like, okay, here's where we actually are.
Here's who we really are.
What are we going to do?
Maybe they could find a way forward.
Like, there's always a way forward.
But you've got to take this leap where you trust people enough to take off your mask.
And it seems like that's a hard thing for people to do.
Quite a lot.
I mean, it's funny.
It's not something that I thought was going to be... Like, when I was writing the end of the book, I didn't think of it as something that people would kind of get so interested in or obsessed with, you know, because it is something that does get discussed a lot.
Okay, so I'll say two things.
So...
The first thing I would say that I had this great tutor when I did a master's in creative writing.
And I had this amazing tutor called Ali Smith, who's just like an incredible writer and such a generous person as well.
