The Dominican sisters run the Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, New York, and they filed a federal lawsuit against a 2023 law banning long-term care facility residents from discrimination based on a patient's actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.
The sisters saying that law would make them violate their Catholic values by assigning rooms by gender identity and allow access to opposite-sex bathrooms.
New York state officials are not commenting on the case.
