The first is, you know, you have to find a way to unwind a multibillion dollar business that is youth sports in America.
That's not going to be an easy problem to solve.
It's something that U.S.
soccer is leading the way on right now to try to change the model completely, to tear down what exists and rebuild it in a way that is more about player development than it is about making money.
But that's not an easy task.
I would say that MLS has been a leader in that MLS academies are free.
They're one of the only places that players can go and play without any costs.
And that's really important.
And I think we've seen that change the national team for the better.
When we look at this U.S.
national team that played this summer, Weston McKinney came through the FC Dallas Academy and was sold to Schalke.
Chris Richards came through FC Dallas and was sold to Bayern Munich.
Brendan Aronson came through Philadelphia Union and was sold on.
All of these players, Alex Freeman came through Orlando City System, played in a second division league that didn't exist four years ago before coming into the first team and being sold eventually and starting and scoring at a World Cup.
So the impact and influence is growing.
Yeah.
But on a more basic level, when we talk about MLS's role in the national team, the domestic league has to be the driver of talent into your national team pool.
It has to be what takes players, grows them through those younger years, develops them in that critical age of 17 to 21, and has them ready for the national team in those moments.
Right now, the way I think of it is MLS has set the ceiling here.
So players hit that developmental ceiling in MLS, and if they're not sold on by the right age, then that's where the growth stops.
