The Feeling of Life Itself by Christopher Koch.

Uh and it's this, you know, it's an academic, but it's actually quite readable until it gets to the math part.

Uh but yeah, he's I think he's like a combination scientist, philosopher, and MIT.

You know, and he wrote about like how do we define consciousness?

And he he argues pretty compellingly that.

you know, he ties consciousness to being able to directly experience um the universe, you know, directly experience w what's happening.

Um, and he is sort of, you know, I I can't claim to following the math again, and it's not like a huge part of the book, but he sort of proves mathematically.

I'll I'll assume MIT betted this part of it.

That you know, a computer would never be able to directly experience the universe.

Therefore, it could never be conscious as we define consciousness.

You would never be able to upload your consciousness into a into a program.

You sort of mathematically prove that in a way.

So I take a measure of comfort from that.

But at the same time, like, yeah, what if he's wrong?

Well, yeah.

Um and obviously AI still can fuck everything up without being conscious.

I mean, that doesn't, you know, it's a little bit like small consolation, but I don't know.

So that book really got me thinking and it was just fun to

explore that, you know, and go, you know, hopefully memory
