And so one of my favorite paragraphs in the story is when she's imagining or I guess watching the TV after the bodies move out and there's like police and there's, you know, black Labradors walking around.
And this amazing image of the helicopters sort of hovering above the treetops.
And then the way she just sort of describes, you know, she's watching it through the TV.
It's like, I watched the helicopters rise from the treetops as if hauling a vast net full of some heavy invisible substance that seemed to want to drag them back down.
But they broke away.
And, you know, that sort of, to me, echoes this sort of something that's been weighing, has been something kind of like taken from her in some ways, right?
Mm-hmm.
And again, echoing that kind of idea of like what's within the skylight, what's within the frame of the window.
And in that moment, I think as the helicopters sort of break away, that sort of the idea of the frame kind of breaks, breaks apart too.
And that's the moment where I think the story actually kind of the canvas widens a bit, right?
Where it gets a bit bigger.
Right.
That really nice house with the gentrified neighborhood with the red door and all the beautiful skylights, it sort of doesn't exist anymore.
Yeah, exactly.
Absolutely.
And also you could argue maybe later on too, even when she's married, she seems incredibly lonely as well, where there's a kind of remove between her and her husband, right?
It's not, again, it's not a story that she's going to tell him.
It's a story she might tell him.
That's really intriguing to me, this sort of narrator who I think you're absolutely spot on, Deborah, where there's a deep sense of loneliness and that loneliness has continued.
