But there's other reasons why buildings are derelict too.
So regulations is a big barrier for people to be able to get buildings back into use.
Even like, you know, there's been a lot of talk about above the shop accommodation for about 20 years nearly in this country.
But there's so much regulations in terms of, you know, access points, in terms of fireproofing.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about like deleting regulations.
But the regulations are costing massively for builders to be able to get these properties back into use.
I do think we need a more practical solution in terms of regulation.
Oftentimes we have regulation because there's a cost to not having that regulation.
But we forget about the real cost in terms of housing problem that's there at the moment.
In other words, there are hundreds of thousands of people in need of housing at the moment and we can talk about some potential problem in the future as an excuse to stop these people from getting housing if you understand.
So the reason I mentioned local authority houses is because it takes an average 8 months to flip a local authority house when it needs to change tenants.
It takes 3 weeks in a private sector.
Another clear example of how incapable the government are in doing things fast in this country.
I honestly believe where the local authorities are not doing their job, the government has to step in.
I think I made my first Holy Communion when this was actually first announced.
