There's so much archaeology in that part of the country, the southwest and the Salisbury Plain specifically.

What was happening at this site then that you've now been uncovering?

What have you found there and what do we think they were using it for?

So Stonehenge itself might have started out with these wooden poles.

And then all of these pits filled with animal bones, it sounds like they were having a feast to celebrate the summer solstice or the winter solstice.

Is that a fair guess?

You mentioned a skyscape archaeologist.

You had to bring one in.

What is that job?

And why did you need to get someone with those skills on board?

Much feasting, yeah.

Nearby there's a stone circle at Avebury and then also there's this site Blickmead where sort of Mesolithic hunter-gatherers were living before we even had the Neolithic farmers who built Stonehenge.

Yeah, but coming up to the point with the people who built Stonehenge.

And one thing I've always wondered about the Salisbury Plain, which I've been to quite a lot, and it just feels sort of mystical.

You feel close to the sky, don't you?

We know that there are stone circles all across Europe.

But was there something in particular special about this site where it was just a hub of knowledge and industry and sort of cultural development?

Or is it just that we've studied it really well and we keep finding these things?
