But that's even more true now than it used to be because you just – there's so many different kind of ways of having to kind of show who you are.
We used to imagine that the people in charge are just like next level, like on a different plane of existence.
And I think it's become harder and harder to believe that because we know too much, right?
And so I think we're trading that for just wanting people that we –
Have a reason to trust.
Yeah, I think it's true not just for politics, like running and being a candidate.
I think it's increasingly true for government too.
I mean, I started to feel this at the Department of Transportation.
You're running this huge enterprise, 55,000 people, $145 billion.
It's bigger than most GDPs in most countries.
And
What I found was that there were so many situations where people who just are generally mistrustful of government or media would assume the worst.
And the only antidote to that was to be way more transparent than a federal agency or department was used to being.
But what I found was kind of the machinery of the department was not set up for that.
It was designed to be transparent.
You know, accountable, but accountable in the sense that if there's something going on and a member of Congress is worried about it, they can write a letter and six months later they'll get a report.
And I'm trying to figure out how do I, because, you know, I'd carry a phone in my pocket too.
Like, how do I take it out sometimes and like shoot a video and like tell people what's going on?
Sometimes they're going to think that we're, that we don't care about them, that we're putting a highway through their neighborhood and we don't care how it's going to hurt them or that we're not responding to a disaster.
in a Republican area because it's a Republican area or any other number of things that people might believe if we don't show them what we're actually doing and why.
