Sources told me recently that this stems from a human resources complaint filed by a former member of North Carolina's front office.
And that led to Mike Lombardi being placed by the university, not by Bill Belichick, by the university on administrative leave.
Lombardi makes $1.5 million in his job as general manager.
He's believed to be amongst schools that have reported the highest paid general manager in all of college football.
This obviously leaves UNC at a crossroads.
He's their top personnel guy.
He's a longtime Bill Belichick acolyte.
And Mike Lombardi's status is clearly uncertain going forward as the university investigates.
