In fact, there are very few who are.

So there's a couple of commentators on him who

uh may or may not agree with him to different degrees.

So you have people like Shahra Zuri and Imkamuna who are deeply engaged with Surhavadi's thought.

Um but they're I would say the exception.

And so it's really only in the Safavid period period with Sadra and some like-minded thinkers like Mia Dhamad who take on this um philosophical Sufism slash illuminationist

tradition.

Um and I I I don't I guess I just don't really believe that Illuminationism is nearly as dominant in this story as you would often think from reading scholarship on it.

So if you think about what happened to the Ottoman Empire.

Um, I mean I'm not saying that illuminationism plays no role there, but what you mostly see is Avicen and

slash calam, philosophical theology, that kind of thing.

So the kind of thing that was actually also more common in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries that lives on in the Ottoman period as well.

So it's very, very complicated later tradition.

And I guess in a way, my overall

message here is that anyone who tells you that there's just one intellectual strand that's worth taking seriously for post Avicennan philosophy is wrong.

So it's almost always true that Avicenna is in the background somewhere, but he's often in the background in a very mediated fashion, like maybe you're reading

commentaries on works that were not written by Avicenna but were written by people who read Avicenna.

So that's often the way that Avicenna is in the picture.

And then there's all these different intellectual approaches that people take to that whole mess.

So it's a quite a complicated situation.
