And that's one of the things that I was hoping my book would show.

And certainly this idea that we deal with the uncertainty about the future t by just embracing the past.

I mean, one thing we just learned from this conversation is people didn't know what they were doing in the past either, so there might not be a great fun.

Quite.

And also that, you know, chaos y it it's very easy to predict chaos because all you're saying is we don't know.

And that's always true to some extent.

But in a way

The great and inspiring thing about the human condition and the conditions of modernity is that precisely that we have been able to limit our exposure to chaos of all kinds.

You know, and that's true in medicine.

It's true in urban planning.

It's true in so many different walks of life.

And I think the combination of art and science that you can observe in futurology suggests to me that we should actually have a lot of confidence in our human.

actually do better, you know.

There are so many trajectories over the course of the history that I've been talking about that actually do chart upward improvement in so many respects.

And my hope we haven't really talked about AI that much, but that's always on people's minds when they think about the future now.

You know, whether it's thinking that we're going to cross some singularity moment where the AI has more capabilities than we do as humans, or whether it's that there's gonna be some disaster, you know, or weaponization in AI for drums or otherwise that's going to create again a kind of dystopian scenario.

I think that actually our best models for using AI probably are in the domains of futurology in the twentieth century when other kinds of predictive technologies were being rolled out and we should be looking at those looking at those histories and trying to learn from them.
