we've all been there James has been a manager I've been a manager you know success or failure it doesn't matter so we try and see it from the manager's point of view because it's easy us sitting here saying oh Martin and Neil should have signings in but you don't realise James will tell you the amount of work you're putting in months in advance and Martin's getting a couple of weeks you know no even a couple of weeks a couple of days and all of a sudden you're thinking to yourself all the work it gives in
from one window to the next window, especially nowadays, because it used to be when I played, it was day-to-day, you could be sold and bought.
It's completely different.
So there's a hell of a lot of work that goes into that, types of players the manager wants.
So all these things, and we try to put that side across and make sure that people understand that it's not as easy as we think.
And we try and put the problem and say, well, if you're saying that, what would you do?
And,
I think that's only fair.
We try and back the managers as much as we possibly can.
We try and say with the players that nobody's never not trying all these things because we've been there.
We maybe have bad games.
The team's maybe going through a bad time.
We try to put that perspective and I think that's important.
I think for the fans as well who are really knowledgeable by and large about football and deserve that respect.

more so nowadays Paul you see it I thought the Xabi Alonso thing I'm looking upon it and I'm looking down at the chairman and I'm saying if I was the chairman I'd have made a stance against Mbappé not against the manager Mbappé too much power telling the players to come away when you've got Xabi Alonso the type of player he was and the type of respect he had for others he was trying to respect Barcelona he wasn't trying to
to belittle his players and we understand that and he was trying but for him to say no and wave his players away and everybody else to follow like wee lambs the chairman should have made a statement about him more than he should have been about the manager and I thought that was really disrespectful to say the least
