Yes, well, you can do it with similar things with babies, although humans are easier because they'll actually follow those stripes with their eyes and you can see that their eyes are following them.

We really want to know what the dark matter is.

It's 80% of the matter in the universe, apparently, and we don't know what it is.

I don't think so.

Let me try to explain.

Experimental methods that we're developing and pursuing, the training of scientists that we do, has crossover into other areas.

So in terms of societal benefit, even if we never discovered the dark matter using these techniques, it has been overall a positive thing.

because we've fed scientists into other areas, into industry, other areas of science where big discoveries are potentially made.

As a dark matter physicist, I sure hope we detect it, and I sure hope it happens in my lifetime.

But I am resigned to it possibly not happening in my lifetime.
