And people will say, well, what about Belgium?
Well, I say it's very sad about Belgium.
But the truth is that Britain, when confronted with the conflict between its own interests and morality, has in the past dumped other people in the mud.

Because there's nothing we could have done to save Dover.
Most people in 1914 believed when war was declared that it would be a naval war, that we would just enter it as we would send the Navy to help the French in various ways, and that would be that.
They never had any idea we were going to create a huge continental-sized army and lose hundreds of thousands of people who have conscription and rationing.
It never crossed their minds.
Political classes are always arrogant.
That's why they do it.
Who should know better than I, one of the most arrogant people I know?
So that's not in itself necessarily a criticism.
You have to be a bit arrogant if you want to do some things.
