And as you point out, it's tough for the young scientist.
I mean, I'm...
In the senior end of my career, we've made vaccines.
We've reached 100 million people.
If I had to shut down my lab, I'd be sad, but it wouldn't be catastrophic.
What I worry about are the young scientists who look at me like Moses in the desert.
Why did you bring us here?
And how do you encourage them to remain optimistic to become the next Eric Topol, right?
I mean, this is what we need, our next generation of physician scientists and biomedical scientists.
There's nothing more precious than that.
So what do you say to them?
And you don't want to just say, well, move to France or move to Belgium or
or Singapore, you want to find ways to do this.
So I've been writing a couple of articles on maybe some of the private philanthropy, some of the private sector biotech can fill some of the gap.
And I wrote this up in Plus Biology, and it will mean biomedical scientists would have to become more entrepreneurial.
Maybe we need to
shift graduate education, PhD education, to allow our graduate students to spend more time in biotechs or learning that whole world.
And actually, as I submitted the paper, I realized it actually has a fundamental flaw, which the reviewers didn't catch.
And that is if, you know, government cuts to science or prolong or sustain, and eventually the innovation pipeline even dries up for the biotech.
So it's not really a long-term solution, but at least— It's notable.
