He'd lost his temper.

And I'd actually said to him, please come and say goodbye before you go tomorrow and hugged him and went off because we wanted to keep up a good relationship in the hope that it would help her.

And then we hadn't seen much of Annabel during the next two weeks.

But during that time, she spent a lot of time with her friends and she had decided that really this is the time that I really must separate.

I spoke to her on the phone that Monday evening.

She told me that she had been to see a sister and the sister had advised that the house was hers and

she could make a financial offer to try and set up Clifton somewhere nearby.

And she was working towards a co-parenting separation.

And one of the last things she said to me is, I'm still very much hoping that we're going to go to this holiday together and we can show a united front with the kids.

And she was dead within hours of that.

But having said that, it is unusual.

But of course, because we were giving evidence as to background, we were not entitled to know anything about the case.

So we weren't even allowed to know the details of the attack until I heard them towards the end of the trial.

And that was particularly hard because you felt, because of the publicity, that people in the street who you might meet casually actually knew more about the case than we did.

And that was quite difficult.

The next emotion, I think, was I'd always thought once I gave my evidence, I probably wouldn't hang around court.

But actually, when it came to it, it was more stressful not going than going.

Yes, to us, he was behind a screen, wasn't he?

I didn't appreciate the level of his selfishness.
