I talk about the benefits of self-doubt.

And in my humble experience, self-doubt and even that imposter syndrome is extremely common.

And I say to people, if you find a leader that doesn't have self-doubt,

don't work for them find another job because a they won't be interested in you and b you won't learn anything so I'm again I'm not wanting to belabor the point but I really of all the things now when I think about you know my own leadership journey the thing I'm most wary of is is that hubris that lack of self-doubt and

I love hearing you say this and I heard you talk about almost positively about imposter syndrome, which we've pathologized.

I, you know, is it a syndrome or is it just that sense where you're like, wow, can I actually do this?

You talked about being made a professor at Auckland University and like wham bam, here you are straight out of the high of.

achieving what you managed to do and keeping people calm and feeling confident in what was going on by and large during COVID to, okay, now you're a professor and you're like, okay, can you tell me about that, the role of what you're calling imposter syndrome in that?

Yeah, and I think it's more about that sort of self-doubt, isn't it?

It's that self-questioning.

Well, what it does is, and again, I think it actually goes with leading with humility.

It's not feeling that there's an entitlement to be in that role and that actually just because the title might be there of professor or in my case, you know, I've been given a

a knzm so that doesn't make me any different as a person there's no there's no status or entitlement that goes with that and we we all are what you know how we act how we behave and that just means that you know maybe this kind of raises the the game a bit and the expectations and so it's something to live up to not something to just um bank as a as as an achievement

Okay.

So you're saying with a title like that, then you want to live up to that title.

You want your behaviour to befit that title rather than bash people over the head with the title.

Totally.

So am I giving a lecture today that is actually befitting of the fact I'm a professor?

It's a privilege because it was what they call at a university a strategic appointment.

I don't have a PhD yet.
