You don't have to agree with everything that was done.
Nobody ever agrees on everything.
but to see and get an insight into how hard everybody was trying.
And it's so easy to look back and, like you say, go, well, I should have done this, should have done this, did this for too long, didn't do this for long.
That hindsight is the vision that we don't have in the moment.
Exactly.
I mean, we live life forwards, but we only understand it looking back.
And in a way, I think Jacinda's been a bit harsh on herself because if we look back, and one of the things we were meticulously monitoring, especially through that first lockdown, was how people were feeling because it's not something we had done before.

Wanted to check on mental well-being and, of course, the dynamics in families, whether women and children in particular felt safe, how people were coping.
But we were also asking about trust in government and the response.
And week in, week out, especially during that first lockdown, and it declined over time, but not precipitously.
Over 90% of people trusted the government response.
Now, I think people have forgotten that.
They've forgotten how frightened they were and just what they were seeing was happening overseas.
And the fact that the government responded in a way to look after people and that they took people on the journey and explained what they were doing and why, day in, day out, and invited them.
And I talk about leadership as an invitation to collective action.
They invited people to be part of that, stay home, save lives, be kind.
Be kind meant look after each other and people took on that invitation to collective action and that's why we did so well as a country and I think it undersells our response if we don't just reflect and remember actually that's how we collectively responded in the moment.
In a way that actually saw us stop what would have been a tragedy because that's what happened in many other countries.
