Well, at the time when I was coming up, yeah.

But I wanted to be real Don Steele.

I wanted to be Robert W. Moore.

I grew up in LA.

We had KHJ boss jocks.

These guys were funny.

They were quick.

They were talking up the records.

They were hitting the post.

I wanted to be a writer, Dan.

I wanted to be Jack Kerouac, really.

So I was hitchhiking all over California and writing in my journal.

But I thought, well, I can support myself being a disc jockey, and I can be funny.

And I got my first gig in radio, and I remember saying to somebody, when do I start being funny?

I literally asked this cat, well, when do I start being funny?

The guy goes, whatever you decide to, Phil.

I don't know how to tell you that, you know.
