You can, but you have limitations.

And the thing about personal insurance is you read a PBS once you need to claim.

And once you need to claim, that's when you don't want to make the wrong move.

So in terms of the advice stage, so what we do is we ask a lot of the medical questions you would be answering when you go for an application.

The reason we do that is because the biggest difference, and back to your point about DIYing, the biggest difference is insurers will have a different assessment based on underwriting.

And so that's why we will recommend an insurer based on your medical history first.

And so the only way we can do that is if we get that information off you first.

So what we do is we ask a million questions about health history, family history.

We ask about occupation, because that will have a big impact, as well as your financial position.

And then what we do is we will understand what existing cover a client has and then determine, is that worthwhile keeping or is it worthwhile replacing or is it worthwhile increasing where it is?

So we'll do the analysis and do all the research and then we'll come back and present a statement of advice.

And really the three key things that we talk about in the statement of advice is, first of all, based on your health history and your occupation, are there going to be any limitations of the cover?

exclusions, loadings, are there any limits on the benefit period for occupations?

So we'll go through that in a lot of detail.

Second thing we touch on is based on someone's financial position, how much cover do we recommend?

Now, at the end of the day,

I'm not paying your premiums, Gemma.

So you'll make an informed decision on how much cover you want.

But we'll tell you, hey, we think you need this much and here's all the reasons why we get to the number.

And then the last thing is the cost, features and benefits.
