The hopes were very high.
Of course, in between all of this that we haven't even mentioned is Anne gets into disgrace trying to marry Henry Percy.
So she's not good enough for a duke in the eyes of Thomas Wolsey or her father or her uncle Thomas Howard.
So there's a real sense that that's too high for her to aim.
But lo and behold...
She comes back to court after a period of exile.
Everybody is just very, very taken with her.
She seduces the king, not sexually, but certainly emotionally.
