We would get the lantern back somehow, leave everything there, and spend the night in Chris's house.
I hated being the one to go first.
I wanted to turn back, even just crouching by the tent entrance.
Unzipping the fabric door, I looked around.
Nothing.

I peered over the tent behind us.
Nothing in sight, literally.
Nothing.
Everything was black outside of the light.
I took a step out and it was cold.
Chris said the same as he stood right by my side looking over his shoulder.
He turned back and saw the lantern in the air.
