Sorry, did you stand in South Australia?
No, I stood in Western Australia.
I stood against a big left winger, the deputy premier of Eric Ripper.
And I was only 20.
And I got an 8.5% swing, which shows how bad he was.
Or maybe how good you were.
Well...
i i had good looks in youth like you do you see that was back in the day but uh but yeah so i set up my first company at 21 and i think that's i i think these days it's a lot easier to set up a business which i admire but it was also a lot tougher because of competition the barriers to entry are smaller do you think there's more taxes now as well no there was always taxes yeah i know there's always taxes but um for example with the cgt they've taken away
Well, look, in the year I sold my company, I paid 25% capital gains tax approximately.
So I ended up paying roughly $20 million in capital gains tax.
But that same year, I paid $600,000.
I don't know why this bothered me more.
I paid $600,000 in Medicare fees on my exit of my company because that was my income for the year.
So it's absolutely appalling.
Yep.
Well, I've set up three businesses.
So my first business was a publishing house, and I did joint ventures with Simon & Schuster and published five best-selling business books.
That was my first business.
And look, when I first set it up, I maxed out an Amex card.
And you've got to pay Amex every month.
