She's not noble, although she's now married.
She's now married.
She has the title.
But you still need somebody of the nobility to present you.
And so it takes several months to locate a woman.
It's eventually Madame de Bayonne, the Comtesse de Bayonne, who agrees to present her.
Because the king agrees to pay off her debts, and then he agrees to promote her sons to better positions.
And so on that basis, she agrees to present Dubarry in April of 1769.
But there's all this gossip among the memorialists at court who are keeping journals and stuff talking about that.
All of the injuries behind the scene to get her presented at court.

And once again, I mean, my one sort of, you know...
makes a joke out of the presentation ceremony.
But according to all of the accounts, Madame du Barry carried it off with great elegance, you know, great panache, great charm.
And calling in favors for people.
Some of the first favors she asks of the king, she asks to have a woman who was convicted of infanticide pardoned because she was a poor woman who had been convicted of killing her baby in despair as a single mother.
Wow.
And she throws herself at the king's feet and says that he wants her to, that she wants him to pardon her.
She gets a noble couple who had shot someone who was trying to collect their taxes.
