So great to be here, Sophie.

I think.

definitely that version of her is being seen by the people who read her and love her.

And so that part felt very seen.

I think some of the pop culture was still not quite catching up, or maybe the mainstream journalists were still not quite catching up.

They were definitely focused on the bonnets and the tea and, you know, the wildflowers.

And those are there and that's fine.

But as we know, there's just so much more.

And as your listeners will know, there's so much more.

You know, I do think maybe the bonnets are the most obvious part and the part that look most different.

If you're looking at a Regency dress, there are plenty of parts of it that are foreign to us, but maybe the bonnet is most foreign.

And so therefore, the part that first captures the attention of people who don't know what they're looking at or who see it as strange from a past period.

They're also cool, right?

And they're the kind of Comic-Con or Halloween costume part of it that maybe also captures attention.

When I teach this, and I'm sure you do this too, students are surprised to hear this described as a time of war and a time of revolutions.

And I think those who just come to Austen – I shouldn't say just – those who come to Austen through the adaptations first –

maybe aren't prepared for that.

They're not prepared to think about the political revolutions, the French Revolution, the American Revolution.

You know, here in the United States, we should be able to do the math on that.

What's sometimes called the longest revolution, women's rights and roles, the Industrial Revolution.
