There's really no precedent for on anything like the scale.
He starts building a causeway from the mainland to the island.
Now, remember, this is over a kilometer across open sea.
So this is a wild undertaking.
The idea that you could build something on that scale is just absolutely absurd if you think about it in terms of any ancient Greek siege craft which has gone before.
And
When the Tyrians see what Diades is doing, which is basically demolishing every building, cutting down every tree, taking every rock, and starting to throw them into the sea so that you start to see from the shore this causeway beginning to advance a few meters at a time, they think it's the
funniest thing they have ever seen in their entire lives.
They cannot believe that someone would be so arrogant and so foolish as to think that this would actually work or that this would intimidate them.
It becomes, overnight, the absolute show of the season in Tyre.
People literally outfit pleasure boats.
Like, they take picnics, they leave the siege city, they sort of heave to, they row out, they sail out, and they heave to just out of arrow or catapult shock.
And they just watch all of these Macedonian soldiers lugging rocks down to the water side and sweating and cursing and throwing all of the stuff into the sea, which of course just seems to be swallowing it up.
You can imagine them going like,
That's literally what they say.
They're like, so you're planning to defeat Poseidon now?
What is it you're planning to do?
Do you really think this is going to work?
And there's literally four days and days and days.
