And it's still nowhere near the walls of Tyre.

And now, instead of pleasure boats, the Tyrians send warships.

They man their galleys.

They send them out stuffed full of archers.

And they basically descend on the men who are building the causeway.

And they just pour arrows into them because they are out in the open sea with no protection and no fortifications.

No armor because they're hauling rocks and you really just can't wear armor and haul rocks at any scale.

It's brutal.

There are massive casualties.

The Tyrians keep doing this.

So Diades realizes, look, I've got to find a way to keep my guys safe.

So he starts building some other things and he builds these two enormous siege towers, which he stations at the end of the causeway and which basically move down the causeway as the causeway advances.

They're multi-story constructions and they've got siege weapons of their own inside them.

And they've also got like a huge amount of space.

So if any of the Tyrian galleys arrive, basically all of the Greeks can either...

retreat to the shore or they can retreat inside these towers and they can pour down artillery on the tyrian warships and pretty soon the tyrians realize okay this this attack isn't working so much it just isn't as effective as it had been and the cause keeps advancing
