Blood sisters emerge in that context.
You know, this is still a time, and I think it's true today, too, although I think AIDS in many ways changed this.
Gay men and lesbians are running along separate tracks.
It's not a unified movement.
I mean, I think LGBTQ now rolls off our tongue so quickly that we forget that those are very different struggles.
Right.
There are different political struggles.
There are different sexual liberationist struggles.
There are different sociological struggles.
The women's health movement that had preceded that was in the 1970s as well, the abortion movement.
reproductive justice movement that has its roots in the 1970s and well earlier as well.
Gay men don't necessarily connect themselves to lesbian health.
But we start to see, especially in places where there's a strong gay and lesbian democratic club, which there is in San Diego.
So those people have been forged together in some kind of political struggle.
Right.
Even if it's mainstream, but mainstream political struggle throughout the course of the 1970s, you start that's where you start to see lesbians make a decision that they are going to start to give blood to support who they call their gay brothers.
