And there it was never totally clear if that meant gays and lesbians.

The other one in the great imperial project of the Western Hemisphere is Haitians.

So there was this sense that AIDS came from Haiti.

And there is a very deep history of what the AIDS epidemic looked like and continues to look like in Haiti.

entities like Partners in Health, which are some of the key activists around the world thinking about global access and care.

They have their first clinics in Haiti.

But so Haiti, so Haitians, hemophiliacs, homosexuals, heroin, IV drug users, and then sometimes

And alternatingly, and this is part of the story as well, hookers were sometimes an H as well.

So what we today call sex workers.

So these are the four or five H's.

And you start to understand that what was happening in that model is that people were being given an identity.

So if you held that identity, you were at risk.

It wasn't yet about behavior.
