The significance is that exposure to excessive heat can make it less likely that a child meets basic developmental milestones in literacy and numeracy skills.
We know that even a small impact can cascade into lifelong learning, mental health and development.
So we are really concerned about those impacts early in life.
And how much that at a population level as well can affect millions of children, especially children who are already experiencing poverty, lack of access to education, lack of access to clean water and sanitation, and also lack of access to other cooling strategies that can help them deal with excessive heat.
