One of the very nice things about it was to be able to walk into the bar and find that there was a gang of middle-aged ladies sort of propping up the bar and think, oh, this is nice.

This has never happened to me before.

So, yeah, there are a few things there which were really positive and very, very good.

Well, I must admit, when I went back to Rothera,

I got issued with the Bodden kit and I thought, I'm going to freeze to death in this.

This is no good.

So I had my old Antarctic Ventile orange cotton sort of overalls and things, which I took immediately.

And I had my own mukluks, which were as worn by the Indians in the Arctic and much, much nicer than the sort of Canadian Army mukluks.

And is that because they're bendy, because the soles bend?

It's because the foot bends so that you don't get cold toes because you're always working your foot.

So those, and actually they look quite nice too.

Disc seven is Gracias a la Vida, sung by Roy Bailey.

This is a lovely song in itself.

It's a South American folk song.

But I think it probably, apart from the obvious, that I'm very, very grateful for.

And all the things that I've been able to do.

It also takes me back to my mother, who was in Spain during the Civil War, rescuing Spanish orphans who were brought back to England to an orphanage here.

And we never went back to Spain as a family because she couldn't bear it.

But I think now she would be quite proud of where Spain is.

And it will be a reminder for me on my desert island if I start getting a bit sort of pessimistic that you might not always see the end result of the things that you do in your life.
