Many other people in those days, they were full of hope for the future.
They were trying to make a better world.
You know, all sorts of wonderful things happened during those years, not to mention, you know, the National Health Service in 1948.
And I'm sure I absorbed that feeling of hope from them.
And so this song will represent that period and that hope.
It's very difficult to say because I don't have very many really early memories.
And some of them are actually confused because there were a lot of friends of my family's, young teachers and various trade unionists that they knew, a whole motley of people.
And looking back, I can't quite remember how old they were.
why they were there, but all I remember is a great crowd of very happy people.
So it sounds like a sociable household.
It's a very sociable household.
Parties, talking, discussions, plots and plans, and generally stimulating, I think is the word.
There was always something going on.
And your parents both teachers?
They were both teachers.
In fact, my mother had taken over my father's job once,
during the war when he was in North Africa.
But when he came back, basically he wanted his job back.
