So, I mean, we take it for granted, don't we, that there's oxygen in the air and our lungs bring it in, bring the air in, and we take up the oxygen.
But obviously, back in the day, people did not appreciate this.
So if you look at Aristotle, he thought the lungs, the primary aim was to cool down the blood.
The liver would produce blood, it'd be hot, and you need to cool it down with air.
Galen was a Greek physician in the second century AD.
Every talk about medical history always talks about Galen.
And really what Galen said then stood for the next 1,200, 1,300 years.
