Every time I read Dante's Inferno and every time I read a translation of it or a versioning of it, as you speak of yours, I find it hard to keep attention because my mind is so evoked by some of the lines that are there that you find yourself listening to yourself, which might be part of the point.

You speak about the consolation of reading towards the end.

You know, it's not about skulking after old classics.

It's about seeing through reading, whether where you're going has been or is now or will be written or not.

You've taken the opening part of Inferno and you've presented it to us in a way of saying, do you need a companion?

Well, you might be your own companion.

Is this a comfort to you to translate to version Dante's Inferno?

I burst out laughing, and then I felt inappropriate bursting out laughing when I read your version here, where you say, in your state, this journey is hardly a priority, despite the flow of words in these damn books constantly arriving.

I mean, that feels very autobiographical in the way that people might talk about in your state,
