And what we're seeing now is the first point.
The second point is that the reason why I share your skepticism on this peace deal is that there have been three or four peace deals affirmed, including one in May of 2024, where the Israeli government proposed a peace deal that the Biden administration accepted and then pushed through a binding UN resolution that mandated release of all hostages and an end to hostilities.
And after the UN passed this binding resolution, Netanyahu said, nope, I disagree.
We're going to go back on it and face no accountability.
And let's not forget that the Israeli hostage negotiators themselves said that they had negotiated a peace deal that involved Hamas giving back all hostages, ceding power and control.
And the Israeli government then also changed their mind as well.
And so right now, I'm pleased that these 20 Israeli hostages are home, but I also think
the conversation can't stop there.
There's about eight to 10,000 Palestinians held hostage in Israeli camps right now, many without any charge or trial, four to 500 of them children, which according to Israeli human rights organizations like Bet Salim are suffering sexual abuse at the hands of Israeli soldiers.
There needs to be accountability for Palestinian hostages as well.
Otherwise, as you said, rightly done, the dehumanization is going to continue.
And this, whatever peace we have now is not going to be sustainable.
I the only thing I agree with him on is that we should acknowledge that this is a step forward.
There's a lot of other innuendos and statements there made that I find confusing and confounding.
