We were standing behind these barriers and they threatened to arrest us and kept us pushing us further and further away.
Meanwhile, the fence that ICE had put up blocking the roadway altogether, a public roadway that a federal judge had ruled must come down, that fence was still up.
And so this is the double standard that I'm talking about.
If the law only applies to the powerless, it is by definition injustice.
And that's what these folks are upset about.
We're not asking for special treatment.
We're not asking for magical treatment.
We're asking for basic justice, equal access, equal determination under the law.
If what these law enforcement officers right here with the billy clubs and the masks are saying is true, then why aren't they arresting the ICE agents who are doing this and worse?
Why aren't they arresting the ICE agents who still have up a fence blocking the roadway, contrary to what a federal judge has already ruled as unconstitutional?
And that's fundamentally the contradiction that people are seeing.
And that's why people are upset.
It is this hypocrisy that is going to continue to enable the discord that we're seeing right now.
And again, I think the solution to this is one, documenting this the way that you are, bearing witness so people understand what's happening.
And then two, just getting a mass movement of people to show up.
and say, we are not gonna back down.
Our constitution is worth fighting for.
Our due process rights are worth fighting for.
This nation is worth fighting for.
And we're gonna show up and exercise our constitutional rights because it's a basic right that we have as citizens as anyone in this country.
