And something else was hiding in plain sight.
There was no sign of the grief the enigmatic frontman was carrying.
Two years before Larry's note went up on the board, Paul Hewson's mother Iris collapsed at her own father's funeral.
She died days later.
He was 14 years old.
It was a devastating time for the teenager.
Bono has written and spoken about how the grief impacted him and how his mother's name was never spoken in the family home again.
His mental health suffered to the point where he says he lost a couple of weeks.
He thought he was going mad.
He says Mount Temple was understanding.
He could walk in and out of the school when he wanted.
He was counselled by one of the teachers, the late Jack Heaslip.

Larry Mullen had lost his younger sister.

As Gavin mentioned, a couple of years later, Larry would tragically lose his mother Maureen too.
And Bono, having lost his mother, was the only person who could understand his grief at that time.
