Just the nature of her time period, you did have to do a lot more writing if you wanted to communicate, really communicate with other people and be understood.

I mean letters with pages and pages, but stationary and everything.
I wish we did that stuff.
It was cheaper to send a letter across the ocean than to call someone in London.
It was cheaper it to mail something out of Boston to the UK than it was to get them on the phone.
Perhaps the poems were the gardener earthly delights for her.
