It's a total rejection of societal expectations.
It's an expression, or you know, at that time at least, was an expression of a combination of anger and wanting to rebel against what had gone before and also creativity, um, and this idea of being quite experimental and trying things.
And I think
The reason I mention punk is I I find it fascinating that
Most hairstyles these days don't particularly shock us, but the mohican is one of very few hairstyles that still has the power to really turn heads and surprise people.
If someone walks into a room with a two foot high green Mohican, you will have a reaction.
And and there aren't many hairstyles left that have that impact.
But I think that speaks to the purpose of them, which is this rejection of society.
It's very purposefully not natural.
No one is gonna mistake that for a natural hairstyle.
You have done something very specific to be confrontational.
And I suppose that's the appeal.
I mean, colourful hair is nothing new.
Again, that dates back to ancient Greece, ancient Rome.
People have always used whatever they could get their hands on really to change the colour of their hair.
I think speaking specifically to blonde, it's such a scarce colour in nature.
But, you know, pure blond hair is very rare and scarcity always
attracts people and that's why people want to imitate it.
But yeah, we see ancient recipes going back to the earliest times of people wanting to change their hair colour.
Probably my favorite one is um the Venetian women during the Renaissance who bleached their hair.
