And we've said before, it's like saying, okay, New Year, we're going to celebrate it on July 1st.
It would be like a very strange recipe.
So this seventh month is very, as you mentioned in your introduction, saturated with a lot of holidays.
And the first one happens on the first and second day of the month of Tishrei, which is falling out this year on the evening of September 11th and the evening of September 12th.
It's a two-day holiday.
One of the things that, according to our tradition, happened on
on the first of Tishrei is that that is when Adam and Eve were created.
Correct, which means a couple of things.
First of all, it makes sense that therefore it would be once a year when we do a check-in and say, How am I doing in this enterprise of being part of humanity?
Like when you join a company and you have your annual review, you usually have it on the date on which you joined the company.
And the other thing that is, I think, appealing about
About that idea is that then the holiday is not exclusively a Jewish holiday.
It's a human holiday because Adam and Eve were created on the first of Tishrei, on the first of the seventh month that we are acknowledging.
And Adam and Eve were the first people.
They were not the first Jews.
So there's something more broad about the day that I think is meaningful.
It's also called the day of
Judgment because it is a day that not only are we ourselves ideally, we're doing some inner judgment and inner reflection, but we also have this in our tradition, this approach of this is when we are being looked at by this idea of God and having an assessment of what we have done with our time here in this past year.
