You know, there are examples, as you say, such as Issey Miyake, where people are still talking so much about those clothes because they last for a really long time.
You know, like those are designs that were created 40 or 50 years ago and still look good from an aesthetic perspective, but also still work from, you know, a fabrication perspective.
It's a combination of the pragmatic need to make sense of all this information and then just sort of, you know, we are in this moment of skepticism and asking about, okay, well, why is everything made of these
handful of materials.
So for me, it started with
This kind of fervor around literature that has been happening in, you know, there's we have book talk on the one hand, but I've also seen a number of fashion brands, everything from like a super high end brand like Miu Miu to these more accessible brands like Doen, who are collaborating with authors or artists.
Or are putting books in their stores, putting books in their campaign imagery, often partnering with authors and putting them in their clothes, wanting to dress them.
I mean, I went to a Celine fashion show in Paris last fall, and Otessa Moshfeg and Miranda July were two of the VIP attendees.
Interesting.
That has sort of been percolating and very interesting to me that, you know, the way that you dress or where you shop might also go hand in hand with the kinds of literature that you're reading.
Especially as we keep hearing that, you know, people aren't reading as much or they aren't buying as many books, you know, the truth is that women really have always been the big readers in the world, you know, so.
Certainly.
So in a way, actually, while it may seem sort of silly or shallow, I think this kind of merging or this partnership really makes a lot of sense.
And I also think, you know, for authors, this is another great way to make money.
The amount of money that you're paid to go to a fashion show or pose in a campaign is pretty extravagant if you're mostly making money as a writer.
So that was kind of where it started for me.
Well, I think in a funny way, I wonder if it helps us to take things a little less seriously.
You know, I think many of us feel exhausted by the overanalysis that is happening in culture.
You know, when you go onto social media, I go on to see videos of dogs.
You know, that's why I'm there.
