And she spoke to the medical examiner, and it was less than an hour before she announced that she was going to drop requests that all charges be dropped.
Oh, man.
It's been brutal.
I had a career I loved.
I had a life savings and a retirement, and that is all gone.

There are no explicit laws, at least not in the state of Georgia, and almost certainly not in other states, although we have not delved as deeply as we have into Georgia law, that explicitly protects caregivers who are given these medications, these controlled substances, and told to administer them to their loved ones as they're dying.
And there's sometimes an assumption, especially in light of the opioid crisis, that, you know, if you have your hands on these medications and you're not a doctor or a nurse, that there might be something nefarious behind it.
And because there's no explicit documentation of that or explicit protocol surrounding that, it kind of leaves it wide open where if someone alleges wrongdoing or foul play, then family caregivers are in a really tough position when their loved one inevitably dies.
Just a few months ago, on what would have been my mom's birthday, March 18th, I went back down to Georgia.
And so I had a small ceremony with my husband and friends.
