KTSF Channel 26 went on air on September 4, 1976, with the mission to serve local underserved communities.

With this vision, KTSF become the first television station in the United States to focus on Asian language and other ethnic programming.

As Supervisor Sian Chan said, in 1989, KTSF broadcasting the first nightly live

Cantonese language newscast in the United States.

And then in 1991, we added a live Mandarin language newscast.

celebrate our 50th anniversary this past Saturday, September the 12th.

It is not easy for an independent television station to continue serving the Asian community for 50 years, and we are very proud of this milestone.

And she is our news director since beginning on 1989 to when.

I do not speak Chinese.

But when we started the newscast, our general manager said, you have a journalism background, you can do it.

So I was in a position where I was able to

hire top talent out of Hong Kong, including Tsai Meiling, who from Hong Kong, every night she was speaking to millions of people in Asia.
