Good afternoon, supervisors.
My name is Kenyatta Robinson.
I run Backyard Smoke Master Barbecue, a licensed home kitchen business in Clayton and Contra Costa County.
Operating through the Miko program.
I'm here today to ask you to support the the legislation that would bring Miko permits to San Francisco.
As such, I'm also speaking for the San Franciscan cooks who might be afraid to speak up because they are currently operating in the shadows.
This week marks my one year marks one year since I opened my business.
In my first year I served twenty seven customers and more than a third of them came back to order again.
One neighbor has ordered six times.
The Miko program came into my life at the most pivotal moment.
After more than twenty years in a corporate career I was laid off.
Soon after, my father passed away suddenly and my mother's health began to decline.
I'm a husband with a daughter away at college, and I needed a way to generate income for my family while also being present for the people who need me most.
Miko gave me that path.
