The longer you observe this massive painting textured with bits of hair and glass, the more bewildering it becomes.
And the story behind it is even more so.
Now, as the painting, valued at $500 million, prepares to move to Western Australia, it's put the spotlight on the tumultuous story behind Australia's most controversial painting.
Today, a special interview with political editor Tom McElroy, who's also resident expert on all things Blue Poles, and author of Blue Poles, Jackson Pollock, Gough Whitlam and the painting that changed the nation.
