We know that the epidemic wasn't recognised until a bit later, until February or March, but that probably travellers to and from China had brought the infection there much before that, so either in December or January.
But what was surprising was they found one positive sample from March 2019.
So they looked at archived samples of the wastewater for all those months of 2019, the whole year, and they found this one positive sample from March.
So how did it get there?
Was it a false positive?
If it was a true positive, what are the explanations?
Was there a traveller from China or from somewhere else who passed through that area and
in Barcelona and left some of the virus in the wastewater.
If that was the case, why didn't it take off?
We know it's highly infectious.
It's caused the worst pandemic of our lifetimes.
Why didn't it happen back in March?
Maybe the virus wasn't as infectious.
Maybe it was a slight variant of the virus, if it was a true positive test.

There's been a WHO commissioned study on the effect of physical distancing, masks and eye protection against SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19.
It basically put together all the evidence from every study on SARS-CoV-2, on SARS-1 and MERS coronavirus and combined all that evidence using the grade criteria, which are
considered the best criteria to apply for evidence.
And it was done by a group that is accomplished at systematic reviews and a Cochrane collaborating centre was involved.
